According to Dr. Juan Saldana, student of the history of medicine in our city and British influence in it, in 1882 Dr. John Sutherland McKay, from the prestigious University of Edinburgh, prepared designs for a Hospital absolutely avant-garde to the historical context in which he found himself.

The building was located in what would become the Molière College on Calle San Andrés and as said Dr. Saldaña would spend fifteen years to see a building of similar characteristics in Spain.
